Trains Unlimited Tours Cancels Feather River Canyon Detour Excursion
Both eastbound and westbound Amtrak California
Zephyrs will still be detouring through the canyon.
###
September 1, 2008
Amtrak's California Zephyr will make one final detour through Feather
River Canyon on Tuesday, September 9!
This may be your last chance ride over this historic
route! Both eastbound and westbound Amtrak California Zephyrs will
detour through the canyon. For something extra special, you also have
one more chance to enjoy this occasion in original California Zephyr
dome cars! Trains Unlimited Tours is promoting this special event,
which will be a part of the eastbound California Zephyr. Visit the TUT
website for more
details.

Amtrak's California Zephyr will be detouring through Feather River
Canyon on Sunday, August 24!
This is an ultra-rare opportunity to not only ride
through Feather River Canyon, but do so in original California Zephyr
dome cars! This detour just happens to coincide with the annual "Domes
to Railroad Days" excursion offered through Trains Unlimited
Tours. They are reporting that space is still available. As the train
won't make the regularly scheduled stop in Sparks, tour participants
will travel by bus to Winnemucca to catch the train there, allowing
them to travel over the full ex-WP line from Winnemucca to Sparks!

We're kicking off our Diamond Anniversary celebration of the California
Zephyr!
Sixty years ago, railcars were
rolling off the assembly line at Budd's Red Lion Plant in Philadelphia,
Pennsylvania, in preparation for the launch of the California Zephyr
on March 20, 1949. In honor of this milestone, we've updated our site
graphics to reflect this exciting anniversary.
In 1948, Budd featured several railcars, including
California Zephyr coaches at the Chicago
Rail Fair. Additionally, CZ dome coaches and baggage cars
were inserted into consists of The Exposition Flyer, giving riders
of that CZ-predecessor a preview of the comfort and elegance that were
coming soon.
