2014 News Silver Glacier Is For Sale The former D&RGW 10-6 sleeper is being offered for sale by the Yucatan Railway Museum, where it has been for several years. The asking price is in the neighborhood of $20,000. This car is believed to be the last surviving D&RGW CZ sleeper of any type (not counting the flat-top coaches, converted from sectional sleepers). The Silver Glacier also has another interesting distinction. In the early days of the CZ, through service from Chicago to New York was provided by the Pennsylvania Railroad and the New York Central. While the PRR provided and owned the 10-6 sleeper Silver Rapids, the D&RGW provided the Silver Glacier on behalf of the New York Central. This is an important car in the history of the California Zephyr, and we hope she can be saved. The following information was also provded by Ivan Godfrey, the new Director General of the Yucatan Railway Museum: "The running gear was recently inspected by and engineer, and found to be intact. The body is sound. The interior is in poor condition." ### January, 2014 Warm wishes for a great 2014! ### **SPECIAL REQUEST** Former Zephyrette (train hostess on the California Zephyr) - Cathy Moran: "My experiences on the Zephyr were right before it was placed out of service. We are in need of help from all California Zephyr riders, Zephyrettes, photographers, and historians to help us out in this project. We are looking for:
