Museum Collection

In 1954, Western Pacific issued a timetable that quickly became controversial, if not legendary. Inside was a page promoting the California Zephyr. One photo in particular showed some happy travellers being attended to in the dining car. Unfortunately, a rumple in the waiters pants created a shadow in a most awkward location. It wasn't noticed as anything out of the ordinary and was issued to the public. It wasn't long before people discovered the shadow and believed it to be something more... well, sinister.

The good folks at Western Pacific allegedly gathered up as many as they could find, issuing a new timetable without any odd lighting effects. As a result, the September 26, 1954 timetable has become somewhat of a novelty among all the other timetables.
